Reviewed brisket with parsnips, leeks and green onions

Dec 7, 2014 on

Gosh, in the TV show it looked so fall-apart, cut-it-with-a-fork delicious but not when I made it. Cooked it for the full time. I mean, it was good but not great. Also, three pounds of parsnips? That's a heckuva lot of parsnips.

Replied to brisket with parsnips, leeks and green onions

No, I don't think it will work. "How do I know this?" you might ask. Because I accidentally bought a Corned Beef Brisket (for this recipe) and then googled whether it could be used instead and all the feedback said it will still taste like Corned Beef. "Smear some mustard on it and use it for sandwiches instead" said one site. So not optimist...

Very tasty. Strawberry puree is interesting. Nice summer salad.

Yum. Easy peasy and tasty. Overcooked the fish a bit in spite of her warnings (I cooked it with Redfish and cooked it closer to 10 minutes) so will learn for next time.

Tasty. Used a lot less onion and wasn't sure what a Kirby cucumber was but used that long wrapped variety you find in most drug stores. Nice alternative to a green salad.

Delish. I threw in some small new potatoes towards the end of the cooking. Thanks Ina!

Reviewed moroccan couscous

May 5, 2014 on

Saw the episode and made essentially the same meal. The only couscous I could find was a boxed variety that comes with a flavor packet so was a bit committed to following the box directions, which weren't too different. Also couldn't find currants so cut up some raisins instead. A nice alternative to rice, noodles, etc. Husband loved it.

Healthy eating everyone loved! Wish I'd read more of the reviews ahead of time because although I followed it almost to the letter (except I used wheat pasta), I now wish I'd a) julienned the squash a little larger so they weren't mushy; b) thrown the cherry tomatoes into the oven with the rest towards the end, and c) cooked the veggies a little...

Easy peasy and delish. Big hit with my husband. I used turbinado sugar with the pumpkin pie spice on top, and not sure how much of a diff but I used apple juice, not apple cider. I also served warm with vanilla ice cream on top. Impressive but so easy! Watching the show helped explain how to easily flip over the pastry such that it couldn't have...

Light and yummy. So many things packed into this pasta dish - you almost wonder if it will all fit it. The arugula reduces down to nothing so make sure you get a healthy bunch in there. Family loved it.

Reviewed Gwen's Fried Chicken with Milk Gravy

Easy go-to recipe for delicious fried chicken. I did one batch in one pan with vegetable oil and the other batch in peanut oil. My husband said he preferred the batch in peanut oil. I could each side that full 15 minutes each, and it turned out beautifully. The gravy was more than we needed but would be perfect over biscuits the next morning....

Sorry. Agree with those that said they were soggy. I did all the recommended suggestions - watched the oven temp (nice and HOT), made sure there was enough oil on the potatoes, didn't turn them too often, spaced them out (not too crowded) etc. Flavorful yet soggy fries. Won't make again. "

Recipe has some flaws, I believe. The salsa references adding Lime Juice yet it's not in the salsa recipe (it's in the marinade, but not in the list of ingredients for the salsa) so I squeezed one lime's juice in just for measure. Also, we used Mahi Mahi as suggested, cooked for the four minutes on one side and 30 seconds on the other as suggest...

Very tasty. I overcooked it a bit (my fault - I finished the recipe before it was time to eat and left it on a low setting but it dried it out) but hubby still loved it.
