Reviewed Spaghetti with Turkey Meatballs

Jan 12, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

The sauce is a winner! Nice consistency with a kick, I'll certainly make again. Since there were no directions for making the sauce, I sauteed the garlic and olive oil, added the crushed red pepper and then the pureed tomatoes. I had some roasted red peppers, so I pureed them, and added them in the sauce too. I did not make the turkey meatballs u...

Reviewed White Chicken Chili

Dec 3, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Another great recipe! My hubby has been talking about how he'd like some white chicken chili, ever since the food service at his office made some. I've always made the traditional chili con carne, so I had to check out a few recipes for white chicken chili. I also had a challenge because while I love heat, my hubby likes dishes much milder, and I...

Super-dense, fudgey, chocolatey brownie! Had some friends over last night, so I decided to make something easy, that would let me break in my new stand mixer. Wow! The brownies did take 55-58 minutes to bake, but it was worth it! The only thing that would have made it better was vanilla ice cream on top! These are rich, and I'm glad I added the t...

Reviewed Spicy Black Beans and Yellow Rice

Jul 28, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

I was hoping that the black beans would actually be spicy...and while they had a bit of a kick, they weren't my kind of spicy. I forgot to put the bay leaf in the rice, but that actually worked out. I put a tbsp of the tumeric and stirred it really well before the rice started to boil. I used brown rice and it seemed to come out well...I was hopin"

Reviewed Lentil Soup

Jan 13, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Made this last night. Hubby raved about it and I didn't get a chance to taste it myself until today. I used only 1 tsp of kosher salt and upped the cumin to 1 tsp and used 1/2 tsp of paprika. Didn't puree the beans. Was perfect, as is. Will certainly make this again. Perfect antidote to cold weather.

Reviewed Simply Delicious Strawberry Cake

Dec 26, 2010 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Made this cake as one of the desserts following Christmas dinner. It was so fragrant while baking, and super easy to make. I put parchment paper on the cooling racks, as some reviewers noted how the cake stuck to the cooling racks. I followed the reviews and only used about 4 cups of powdered sugar for the icing (and still had about a cup of icing...

Made this cake as one of the desserts following Christmas dinner. It was so fragrant while baking, and super easy to make. I followed the reviews and only used about 4 cups of powdered sugar for the icing (and still had about a cup of icing left over). This is a super-moist, dense, super-sweet dessert that rivals most strawberry cakes at any bakery....

Reviewed Coconut Bundt Cake

Dec 16, 2010 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

After reading reviews, I cut the sugar down to 1 1/2 cups, particularly since I could only find cream of coconut (which included sugar, as well. I also mixed the coconut into the batter, instead of drizzling over the top. I might try it again with 2 cups of sugar, and use lemon juice for the glaze instead of pineapple juice. The cake was good, but...

Tried this recipe out last night and it was a hit. It's a great alternative to steaming fresh broccoli---who knew a veggie could be healthy and have so much flavor. Will definitely try this again. It's quite quick and easy.

Reviewed Lemon Pound Cake

Nov 21, 2010 in Food Network Community Toolbox on Food Network

I've made this pound cake several times and I change it up a little bit every time. ALWAYS use fresh lemons, you can tell the difference. I also replace the vanilla with lemon extract for an extra lemony flavor. I find the cake really moist but just a little bitter, as is--even with the glaze, so I make a second glaze with 3 tbsp of fresh lemon juice...

Reviewed Turkey Chili

Nov 7, 2010 in Food Network Community Toolbox on Food Network

SUPER TASTY! I took the recommendation of some of the reviews and increased the chili powder to 2 tbsp. I also added cumin and roasted red peppers. It had just the right amount of kick to it. I realized after I started making it that it only makes about 5-6 servings, so I'll be making another batch this week, with spicy turkey sausage. Going forward,...

Nov 7, 2010 in Food Network Community Toolbox on Food Network

We've gotten the first cold spell of the season...so what do I crave? Chili and cornbread...this was a perfect recipe to pair with a spicy turkey chili recipe I made (also courtesy of FN). I used buttermilk instead of whole milk and omitted the cheese (didn't have any)...but I can't say that it missed it...I agree that it probably would do better...
