Reviewed 1770 House Meatloaf

"If you're looking for a delicious and quick fix -- whether at home or as a last-minute surprise with friends at their place (it travels easily) -- this version of an old-time favorite, meatloaf, will please you and your budget. You were right again, Ina: this is not your Mother's meatloaf. And if you're anything like me and prefer to pass on the sauce, I suggest you make an exception for this one. Ina's eye-rolling apple crisp that I made the day before -- even though all I had on hand were Granny Smiths -- hit the spot for dessert. Enjoy!"

About Me

I adopted the inimitable Ina Gartner the moment she arrived on the FoodNetwork scene.  Ina's cooking style reminds me of the way my mother taught me to cook: with love, a common-sense approach for what the dish calls for that (eventually) surfaces after years of cooking, buying the best ingredients you can afford is key, with respect for the precision required to turn out excellent baked goods and, last but not least, the exciting anticipation of sharing the food you prepare.

There's a constancy about Ina that I cherish.  That is, despite her fabulous success she has the intuitive intelligence and wit required to stay connected to her audience.  As a result, Ina -- and in a way that only she can -- has opened vistas in my attitude toward trying recipes that I might otherwise not have.

My husband, Rob, has become more at ease with the "trade-off" aspect of me watching more sports events (than I've ever imagined!), so he grins-and-bears it when it's time to watch Ina. Truth is, as a treat to us both he has on several occasions taken notes from Ina, shopped for the ingredients and whipped up fabulous meals!  (Not to worry, Jeffrey: I still love to watch you tackle a barbecue grill . . . )

I admit that I wait until after I hear the moans of a very lucky someone eating Ina's mac & cheese, coconut cupcakes, apple crisp or outrageous brownies before sharing Ina's stand-the-test-of-time recipes in much the same way she has so graciously shared hers.

Ina: you're one in a million . . . thanks a million!
