"I normally give Ina's recipes 5 stars but for this recipe I subtracted one star because all 8" round square pans are not created equal!! I made this cake today and followed the recipe exactly. Reading other reviewers comments I prepared an extra 8" round cake pan just in case, so I had 3 instead of 2. I purchased the disposable aluminum pans which are not very deep. After mixing the batter I realized there was no way all the batter would fit in just two pans so I measured out exactly two cups of batter per pan, the batter yields 6 cups by the way. Cakes came out wonderful!!!! It cooked in about 30-35 minutes. They rose perfectly and nothing spilled over. At the end I had a delicious 3 layer cake. Ina usually tests her recipes but she may not have given thought to the fact that home cooks may be using different pans, hence only 4 stars."

I didn't have pistacios on hand (and they are too expensive anyway) so I used cashews and they worked well. The flavorings were perfect otherwise and I would make this again again!!!

I've made this recipe so many times over the past year and each time I either double or half the recipe depending on how many guests I'm feeding and because the ingredient measurements are so exact it's a cinch.
