It was okay - not as tasty as I would expect, and I followed the recipe exactly. The black bean and pineapple just don't have the chemistry. A friend thought it was delicious though, so it's subjective.

This was a great recipe- very savory, between the spices, mushrooms and cognac, and the gravy. I used fresh onion instead of frozen and substituted Montreal Steak seasoning with both garlic pepper and a rib rub that had some sweet and salty in it. I thought this soup was too heavy on spice (heat) and not deep enough in flavor, so I had to use slabs of sour cream and a glass of milk to make up for it -- sadly, this means the dish wasn't a winner for me.
