Reviewed Magnolia's Vanilla Cupcake

May 24, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

Soo good! The cake is now my staple vanilla cake recipe. Everyone loves it. A little word on the buttercream though: it may taste very buttery and/or sweet at first. I found that the longer the buttercream sits the better it tastes, such as a day or two after making it. "

Reviewed Simply Delicious Strawberry Cake

Okay, so usually I am a diehard from scratch baker, but this is an exception. Great! A few things though... I could not find strawberry extract in the grocery store, so I mistakenly added a bit more strawberry puree to the frosting to make up for the lack of strawberry extract. Bad idea. The frosting did not set up correctly because too much puree"

I used two heaping tablespoons of honey but other than that I stayed true to the sauce. The sauce is more than enough and you won't need to use all of it. My spaghetti drowned in the sauce and I had to drain some of it out. I don't like red peppers or scallions, so I just used the snap peas. I also added chicken strips and it was quite good."

Reviewed Honey Vanilla Pound Cake

Delicious! Just made this yesterday afternoon. I used a heaping teaspoon of lemon zest and when it was done I poured a vanilla glaze over it and served it with sliced strawberries. Perfect warm weather dessert. ""

Reviewed Spanish Chicken with Chorizo and Potatoes

Mar 21, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

I made it for Cinco de Mayo last year, except with chicken breasts instead of thighs. My result: while the chorizo, orange, potatoes, etc. provided great flavor and were tasty, the chicken was bone dry. I typically shy away from any part of chicken except the breasts (I'm a creature of habit), which is why I didn't go for the thighs. I may have m...

Oh man. This may just be the best frosting I've ever had (well tie between that and my special coconut buttercream, courtesy of America's Test Kitchen. I didn't make the cupcakes as I have my own chocolate cupcake recipe, just the frosting. I added a tiny bit more sugar to it and it is perfection. Thanks a million, Ina!""

Reviewed Caramel Apple Cheesecake

Nov 14, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

With so many good reviews, how could I not try this for Thanksgiving? Looks great! I'm an avid baker and I have a big preference towards recipes made from scratch though, so when I make this I'll make my own graham cracker crust, caramel, and put my own special touches to the apple pie filling :)""

Reviewed Mac and Cheese

Sep 20, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

I've made this three times now- I'm never going back to plain old Kraft mac and cheese again! It's great for a dinner party or family get together and makes a lot of mac and cheese. I wouldn't add quite as much salt to the sauce though, and be sure you don't cook it in the oven for too long (like I did last night) as it loses much of its cheesine...

I haven't made these in a couple years, but they are sooo tasty! It's like having Cinnabon in my own kitchen! The only downside is that there is a lot of preparation involved, per se. I made them on Christmas morning once. But, it wasn't the right time to make them as Christmas morning (in my family, that is) is always too chaotic and rushed. Best...

Amazing! I made this last 4th of July and everyone loved it. It's refreshing and a great dish for summer get-togethers. The feta isn't overpowering either. I can't wait to make it again sometime!

Reviewed Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheesecake

Feb 12, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

I disagree somewhat with the others. I'm an avid baker/cooker and while this cheesecake was good, it wasn't outstanding as it didn't have much flavor. I probably wouldn't make it again (I still think you're awesome though, Nigella!).
