Reviewed slow-cooker bean and barley soup

Jan 31, 2014 on FoodNetwork.com

I'm giving this recipe 3 stars for the health factor and the idea behind it, but it was horribly lacking in flavor. I added a parmesan rind to it from the beginning and that didn't begin to be enough. It needed some kick of flavor, I'm not quite sure what though? I will absolutely try it again, but I'll have to experiment a bit to see if I can make...

What a HUGE hit! The flavors all worked so well together. Plus it was so easy, I did all the veggies and bacon the night before, then just let them come to room temp while I made the rice(I used a mix) and stirred everything together when the rice was done and added the toasted nuts. I used slivered almonds that I toasted. Everyone loved it. ...

WOW...this was AMAZING! I fried 6 slices of bacon and used that fat to toss the squash in and roast in the oven with a few cloves of garlic and some onion. I reserved the bacon and all the squash/onion mixture and added it in the last minute of cooking the risotto when I added the parm and some heavy cream. I of course added salt and pepper during...

The recipe was decent overall, but not the flavor I would have expected from Guy. Luckily I tasted the sauce several times before baking and added some chicken soup base to the sauce along with red pepper flakes, 1/2tsp, lots of pepper and some nutmeg. That all helped a lot, but next time I'll still add more salt."

Oh my goodness, this was just like getting Chinese takeout...except better and cheaper! If you're planning to feed 4-6 like it says, you will need to double it! Both of my kids and I loved it! I'm usually one to ad-lib with a recipe, but this was perfect as is was written. Do your family a favor and make this one soon!"

How can something this simple be soooo good? I grilled the corn in the husks so that is was cooked, then cut it from the cob. I added some red pepper flakes for a small kick and also went with the garlic and lemon juice that another person suggested! Everybody loved it and there wasn't a kernel left!

Thanks Bobby!"

Jan 13, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

My brother and I tried this tonight, it was amazing! My brother, who tends to overdo any good thing went overboard on the saffron. Even with that, it was very good. We decided to try it again later but with either the normal amount of saffron, or a little less. The oven roasted squash was amazing, in fact I'll try that again as a normal side ...

Nice job Paula. This was a major hit with my family. I cut it in half because theres only 3 of us, but wow, we would have eaten it all without a problem. Both kids loved it. I added a little red onion like others that I read in the reviews and I also added a little chipotle powder for a very small kick. I'll be doing this one again.""

I completely agree with the comments about too much lemon. I doubled the recipe but only used the zest of 1 lemon and the juice from half. That seemed perfect. My kids and I loved it! It would be perfect with chicken and some red/yellow peppers....you might need a little more dressing at that point, but it would be great. I also added a litt...

I also missed the dijon mustard since it's not listed in the recipe, but it didn't seem to matter. We loved it! I'll make a note for next time because I'm sure it will only be better, but it was delicious as it was. I love Bobby's recipes.""

I tried this tonight for the first time and my non polenta loving daughter enjoyed it. Just remember to stir often and adjust seasoning at the end. Loved it! Thanks Emeril...

I just did this recipe with Tilapia....WOW, way to go Ina. Loved it. I, like many others used about half the lemon and it seemed perfect. I also added a few capers for fun and added flavor. I loved how simple and quick it was, no muss, no fuss. If you haven't tried it, add it to your upcoming week, you'll be happy you did."
