Reviewed Miso-Ginger Marinated Grilled Salmon

Jun 14, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

A couple of teaspoons, maybe a T of honey added to the marinade worked wonders. Taste your marinade before marinating with it to decide if it tastes like something you'd want your food to soak in.

Made the marinade a couple of hours in advance, as it's not good to marinate fish for more than 30 minutes to max 1 hour, makes...

Reviewed Pulled Pork with Two Chiles Tamale Pot Pie

Feb 4, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

What, no reviews yet? But then I checked the episode broadcast date and it's still to come, so go figure. Made this in my own style, with an additional layer of kale with tomato, cumin and lime, kind of like a lasagna with polenta on the bottom, middle and top. I think it's traditional to strain out the reconstituted dried pepper skins af"

Reviewed Guacamole

Fine guacamole but no different from the guac I would make just spontaneously without a recipe. Love Alton. I wouldn't use a potato masher, I'd use a fork or something I have more control over to leave bigger pieces of avocado."

Just a note here, you don't leave the achiote seeds in the dish, you cook them in the oil to color and flavor the oil, then as the recipe says you drain the oil from the seeds and use ONLY the oil to brown the chicken. The seeds you throw away."

Reviewed Kobe Beef Meatloaf and Meatballs

Aug 6, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

Yeah, I just made this. Had my 10 lbs of Kobe beef delivered by jet fighters, they tilted their wings to signal me that it was ready. Already had the onions since they were on sale. It was delicious, but next time I'll scale it down."

Reviewed Stuffed Turkey Meatloaf

Aug 4, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

Best meatloaf ever, moist and unique. I'm an accomplished cook, but I've never made meatloaf. Who has 2.5 lbs of ground turkey? I did. I had a 3 lb box of turkey and made 2 stuffed burgers, so this was the perfect amount for me.

I wish I had grits, but I didn't and needed to use things I had, so I put oatmeal soaked in enough...

Reviewed West Indian Curried Chicken Roti

Apr 2, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

Made this recipe with shrimp rather than chicken, and added 2/3 can chickpeas and 1 sweet potato in large cubes. I've never had curry with just meat and oninos. I added the shrimp last for 10 minutes after simmering the onions, potato and chickpeas in the curry sauce for maybe 45 minutes.

It was delicious. However, although...

Reviewed Marinara Sauce

Mar 8, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

I always agonize over my web search of marinara sauce recipes. This time I was in a hurry to use 2 peppers, and this was the first recipe in the search results. Now it doesn't have peppers but I knew I could put them in. I've seen it before and hesitated to use celery. I was skeptical of carrots too but I learned last time grated ones ...
