"The sugar is not forgotten - I've made a Christmas cookie recipe for over 35 years that calls for the same ingredients. We called them Danish Pastries when I was a kid, and they have apricot preserves and a walnut in the center of a similarly shaped cookie. I think because there is sugar in the center, this is where the sweetness is to come from"
