I carmelized onion and yellow/orange/green bell peppers and added basil to the egge mixture prior to adding the cooked spaghetti. I modified it by leaving out the sugar all together and using a quart of beef stock in stead of water, only used 6 ounces of tomatoe paste and did not puree it. I used lots of root vegetables that I had in house. It made a very hearty stew that my family loved."
