Reviewed shrimp and grits

2 days ago on FoodNetwork.com

This is easy and quick. I followed the reviews and added some jalapeo (can't believe a recipe from Bobby Flay wouldn't have jalapeo) and sprinkled the shrimp with old bay seasoning when cooking them. The cheese I cut back and used both parmesan and cheddar. Think the parmesan did make the recipe pop. Also added some cream for some richness....

Reviewed Marinated Chicken Thighs

Jun 25, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

I didn't have time to marinate overnight - got in a good 6 hours - it did make the chicken very moist; but it didn't have a lot of flavor. Maybe best to just use rosemary as the primary herb and have rosemary chicken. "

Reviewed Grilled Chicken with Basil Dressing

Jun 13, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

This was a nice change from ordinary chicken - I would have never thought to use fennel seeds like this - and it was great. Also easy. Yes, cook the chicken on low grill heat at first, then grill high to get it nice and brown before taking off grill to keep it juicy. The basil dressing was a nice touch to the chicken. I didn't measure the lemo"

Reviewed Avocado Salad with Tomatoes, Lime, and Toasted Cumin Vinaigrette

Mar 14, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

This was different, the cumin seeds were a little over-powering, next time I'd cut them by half. It may have been the toasting of them. I also cut the oil and added some garlic. "

Reviewed Sauteed Kale

Mar 4, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

This was very good and easy, too. I used chicken broth for more body and also added some shallots when sauteing the garlic. For the vinegar I used a star apple vinegar. Also added some crushed red pepper flakes - can't figure out why Bobby Flay didn't want some kick in this dish. Will be making this again."

Reviewed Braised Napa Cabbage with Bacon, Red Wine Vinegar, and Mint

Feb 9, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

This was good. I did everything on the stove, which was good as there was so much liquid. I followed others, and used less vinegar and omitted the mint. Dish reminded me of red cabbage dish. Next time may try to add beer vs chicken stock. "

Reviewed Frittata

This was easy, fast, and ellegant. Prep may take a little while; but you can prepare everything ahead of time, clean up and then throw it together with little or no effort. Like everyone said, use whatever you have on hand and a great way to repurpose leftovers. Watch the video and it will be a snap to make !!!! Thanks AB

Reviewed Oysters Rockefeller

Jan 27, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

This was great - my husband made them - I only know he did use white wine vs pernod and parsley vs chervil. Will keep this recipe for next time. Wish there was an easier way to open the oysters."

Reviewed Smothered Pork Chops

Dec 31, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

This was great and quick. My changes were to brine the chops first. Then I added some mushrooms, shallots, capers, and chopped sun dried tomatoes to the sauce. It was truly yummie and I'll be making it again. "

Reviewed Grilled Cedar Plank Salmon with Yellow Pepper Saffron Sauce

Nov 11, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

I only prepared the sauce. Which is great. Not an overpowering saffron flavor. Everyone loved it. Just remember only to use peppers that are yellow, red and/or orange. Once you add that green pepper to the mixture - it tastes good; but looks like baby poop; therefore, unappealing. "

Reviewed Salmon with Lemon, Capers, and Rosemary

Nov 11, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Much better than I expected, was afraid to use the Marsala wine - but it was great. Didn't leave a strong Marsala flavor - just a good flavor. I used 1/2 rosemary and 1/2 thyme. Also kept the fillets whole and put on large cooking sheet, covered with aluminum foil and baked. Used this for dinner guests and everyone loved it. It was easy and q"

Reviewed Chili Dogs

Nov 6, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Yes, this was sooooo sweet. It wasn't that bad, but not old fashion chili. So if you want a chili dog, make the chili you like. I also substituted some catsup with fire roasted tomatoes and it was still too sweet. So use less catsup, more chili and garlic."

Reviewed Easy Lobster Paella

Sep 27, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

This is totally awesome and easy. I too used shrimp, but was able to use two lobster claws and added some mussels, too. Very showy dish. And so easy. Can't wait to cook it again. My saffron shouldn't have been old, but flavor wasn't there, I may try to steep it before adding to dish next time."

Reviewed Oven-Roasted Fruit

Sep 17, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Thought this was good. I baked it before hand and broiled before serving. Also stirred in melted jalapeno pepper jelly before baking - still wasn't really spicy - but good. And went along with everyone else and just sprinkled on a little surgar. Make sure you use firm fruit. Was quick and easy, as you didn't have to peal the fruit. Will mak"

Reviewed Crunchy 3-Cabbage Slaw

Sep 6, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

This is great. I am a fan of mayo cold slaw - so found it surprising that I liked this - but did. Especially in the heat of summer - no worries - since no mayo. I didn't have napa cabbage - and it still came out great. You can't tell there is jalapeno in it - so make sure you put it in. I did add some agave to sweeten it up some - terrific. "

Reviewed Red Cabbage Slaw

Sep 2, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Thought the vinegar soak worked well. I recommend you drain it well or it will be too vinegar-y. I left out the fennel but enjoyed the apples in the slaw. I also used red horseradish so everything blended well - similar color. "

Reviewed Grilled Eggplant Salad

Sep 1, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

This tasted good. I followed other suggestions and added basil and roasted red bell peppers and jalopenos. Also had an ear of corn, so roasted that, too. I was surprised that the avacado worked well, so don't leave that out. It wasn't a very pretty dish; but tasted good. I also didn't want to leave on eggplant skin, but roasted it with skin o"

This was great. The video really help pull everything together and am glad I watched it before making. Suprisingly, one cookie is a full meal. A great salad, as you can prepare it ahead of time and it is very colorful. I always substitute bacon, because that is what I have on hand and prefer. I also used a sweeter vinaigrette - had avacado oil on hand and it really made everything pop, also added a little agave to better blend with the sweetness of the melon. ""

Love this recipe. Slaw is wonderful and tasty. (leftovers are great on a sandwich, too) If I have a fresh green or red pepper I add it. Have used the same recipe several times and...
