My Activity

Reviewed Ham and Cheese in Puff Pastry

"WOW! This is fantastic! I used smoked gruyere, dijon mustard, and my favorite brand of thinly sliced ham lunchmeat. Cooked at 425 for 20 minutes and it is golden brown just like Ina's. Everything cooked evenly. I am definitely going to make this for company and parties - it's a keeper!"

Reviewed Blueberry Muffins

"Well, not the best muffins I've ever had and not the worst. Call me crazy but I just don't like using lemon zest in certain recipes. I only used a tiny bit because I knew it would overpower if I used the amount Ina calls for. I don't like the sour lemon flavor in the background of these muffins so I'm not going to use it in the future. Also, I do"

Reviewed Beatty's Chocolate Cake

"Great taste - weird texture. Here's a helpful bit of advice. Keep tasting your dish when adding various ingredients. This recipe calls for 1 cup of coffee in the cake mix but I think that's way too much and makes it taste like mocha. I knew 1 cup would be too much so I simply poured 1/4 - 1/2 cup in and had a taste so I knew it was fine. Same ""

Reviewed Turkey Lasagna

"This was the first time I ever made a home made lasagna and it couldn't have been more easy. It was the best I ever tasted (and I've eaten lasagna in Italy!) The only thing I did differently is use ground beef instead of turkey or sausage. (I hate turkey and had lots of ground beef on-hand.) My in-laws were over for a visit and I really wowed them""

Reviewed Kale with Roasted Beets and Bacon

"Oh boy. I wanted to like this, I really did. This was my first time both cooking and eating kale and I discovered I don't like earthy tasting vegetables. The kale was bitter so the apple cider vinegar definitely took some of the edge off. The roasted beets were just so-so tasting. The bacon was the best part. Ironically, my 3 yr old and 5 year old""

Reviewed Salted Caramel Milkshakes

"Holy crap this sauce is sweet! I've never made home made caramel sauce before but this was just way too sweet. Maybe I need to tweak the amount of sugar or add more butter or something. Oy vey!""

Reviewed Ten-Minute Blackberry Cream Pie

"Guys, you have GOT to be kidding me with this! I followed the recipe exactly and it was a watery blackberry mess! Can't even cut into the pie because it's so runny. I'm trying to freeze it in hopes that it will stiffen up. I should have known better when I didn't see gelatin or any real thickening agent in this recipe. I'm so disappointed too beca"

Reviewed Spinach-Feta Rice Pilaf, Sliced Steak with Oregano Sauce, and Broiled Tomatoes with Parsley

"I just made this for dinner. The steak turned out great. The rice was undercooked and underseasoned. (I followed the recipe exactly.) I added more salt, pepper, nutmeg, and stock and cooked it 6-8 minutes more. I don't like rice aldente so the extra cooking time softened it up nicely. I still wasn't blown away by the flavor-even with the spinach and feta. The oregano butter sauce was nice but oh boy I'm glad I only used half of ONE lemon because a whole lemon would have made the steak inedible.
