Reviewed Vash's Nut Cake

"This is a recipe my mother-in-law did every year for Thanksgiving and/or Christmas. She started the cake about a month before it was to be served, kept the cake refridgerated and covered by cheesecloth, and at least once a week she would resoak the cheesecloth in bourbon. Also she used half and half chopped pecans and walnuts. I've been looking for this recipe for years. Thank you so much for listing it online!

About Me

I am a California native who has spent most of my adult life anywhere BUT California. I don't consider myself a good cook, but I have been blessed to have a husband whose single mother worked nightshift at the local hospital and who taught her son and daughter to cook at a young age. And she really helped me - after she got over the shock of her son, who was raised as a proper southern gentleman, marrying a California girl - to learn some of the most wonderful southern dishes I've ever known. And this wonderful lady gave me her recipe box before she died!  I must say that I could never conquer fried okra, so I know I disappointed her there, but fried eggplant and green tomatoes are some of my favorites. My daughter has become a gourmet cook, far outshining both her parents and eveen her southern grandmother. Unfortunately, all this great southern food has helped me gain so much weight I can't eat it anymore.

Favorite Foods

My favorite restaurant is Visconti's Restaurant in Folsom, CA. Absolutely the BEST Italian food outside of Italy and is run by the Visconti family.

My favorite dish to cook is eggplant parmesan, but it is difficult for me to do these days as I am not able to stand for the length of time it takes to brown the sliced eggplant. The dish is made as a lasagna-type of dish.

I am famous in the family for making dinner rolls for our extended family get togethers.
