“Well, they tell you how to cook everything else in the recipe, so one would assume that they mean the canned fried onions, like French's. OR, you could just fry your own onions. Either way, it's not very confusing unless you're a complete toolbag. If it was me, I'd sautee onions until carmelized - that would be pretty awesome.
