Very simple, tasty, low cost recipe. Most of the ingredients you will find in your pantry. I make this vegetarian style (no bacon or vegetable broth) and is still very flavorful. For toppings I use cheddar cheese, low fat sour cream, cilantro, hot sauce and fresh lime. "

Would using filtered apple cider give this recipe a little less punch in sweetness? I used 8oz of (unfiltered apple cider and it was still too sweet for me. Didn't matter, my spoon still made it to the bottom of the bowl. The key ingredient to this french onion soup is the carmelized onions. You should take the time to achieve this, it took me 45min...

Move over Chicken Noodle...this IS the soup for the heart and soul. I used ground turkey instead of ground beef, the pork keeps the meatballs moist. The first time I made this recipe I browned the meatballs before adding to the soup but I believe cooking them in the broth not only adds to the flavor of the broth but contributes to the recipes authenticity....
