Reviewed Butternut Squash Souffle or Kugel

Jan 13, 2014 in null on Food.com

Was a good, healthy use for leftover winter squash puree, but not so impressive I would make puree for this recipe. Found it to be a not so sweet pumpkin pie. To be fair, I made a few alterations including not adding oil (use some apple butter that was languishing in the fridge). It';s not going to win over people who dont like squash, but if...

Replied to Potato and Leek Soup

Jan 3, 2014 on FoodNetwork.com

The main reason I read the reviews is to see alterations that people have made with success or not. For example, I read patty's review thinking ah- I have some yam to use up, I bet that would add a nice touch of sweetness. Helps with the creative cooking process- recipes as inspiration is just as valid. Rock on, alteration reviews!

Must be something wrong with me, but was so disappointed after all these excellent reviews. I thought I followed the recipe exactly, but they were blah for so much time required. Kinda tough with not too much flavor, and as noted by many, hard pan cleanup. Recipe went in the recycling bin; guess I';m in the minority. oh well. (and they were e...

Reviewed Canned Sardine Fritters: Fritelle Sarde

May 2, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

"Fantastic!" was the dinner review. I've never been able to stomach canned sardines, but I've wanted to eat more of them: 1. they are supposed to be a sustainable fish, not over-fished 2. one of the highest foods naturally high in Vit D.

Gave this a try, figuring they could always be eaten by the b.f. who likes canned sardines....

Great recipe, def worth repeating. I esp liked that unlike a lot of gluten-free recipes, I didn't have to buy and odd specialty products (like xanthum gum or brown rice flour). And it is nice to have something that can be shared, and enjoyed, by those guest who can tolerate gluten products."

Feb 27, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

I didn't feel I should give any stars, since I altered the recipe so heavily, but it was just too good to not rate. Basically I halved it, used spicy ground lamb, used no vermouth, added potatoes, and cooked on the stove top. With that said, this meal got rated "top 10 dishes ever" and was VERY delicious. The spices and veggies are a great startin"

These were tasty and enjoyed by everyone at the dinner party, but nothing so amazing that I would repeat again. Since it is maple syruping season, I had wanted a cookie cutter recipe using our maple syrup and this met the criteria. I thought they were a little boring, not quite as mapley as I wanted (admittedly I like very strong flavors/spices)....

Nice way to use abundant veggies, in an easy, quick, relatively healthy manner. I used parsnips instead of carrots, cause that's what I had. And red onion instead of scallions. Found they cooked nicely with only a trace of oil in the pan. Good with hot honey mustard. Will use again for veggies that grate nicely, esp bags of frozen zucchini from th"

One of the best breads I've ever eaten or baked! Moist, tasty, lovely consistency and color. Might be a tinch off authentic swedish limpa bread. Even though we had already eaten, when it came out of the oven and we "tried" a piece, we ended up eating 1/2 a loaf. I highly recommending baking when you can can use it right away warm.

Very good base/inspiration though def a little bland which is why I gave 3 stars. Would however make again, probably with a lot more carrots (added nice color/texture/flavor balance). Very easy/quick dinner option and fairly healthy too. Like many readers I needed to add a fair amt of spice- paprika, curry, onion flakes, good squeeze of ketchup. I...

Jul 28, 2012 in null on Food.com

I thought this was a very good base to start with for a healthier zucchini bread. I gave it "very good" stars instead of "excellent" because was a little boring for my tastes. In second batch I added chopped up candied ginger, some raisins and dried cranberries for a little more zing.
I substituted 1/8 cup of the oil for applesauce with no no...
