I was fearful to add more salt (considering the sodium in the crackers and I used salted butter) Also, I added ground pepper to the pasta mixture prior to baking. I used 2 (8x4x1") oval dishes and 4 muffins. Those in the muffin tin were without crackers. The cracker crust imparts a texture and flavor that was missing in the 'muffins' I made. If using a larger casserole results may be too soggy and/or the toasty crunch may be lost. Recipe was satisfactory as written, but I did add pepper to the pasta and finished...

I made these for St. Patrick's Day, on a whim and as per recipe, except the store was out of buttermilk so to 1 c. of whole milk I added 1 tbs. lemon juice and let stand til thick. I used 3/4 c of this mixture as per recipe. What a great surprise... easy, tasty and everyone loved them! They reminded me of scones.
