Reviewed slow cooker beef stew

Nov 9, 2014 on FoodNetwork.com

VERY good and VERY hearty! I made this after seeing the show yesterday in my large dutch oven (1.5 hours at 350) instead of the slow cooker. I used 3 beets and even though it didn't effect the flavor it effected the color. Everything is beet red and it's difficult to distinguish the components of the stew.

VERY good and VERY hearty! I made this after seeing the show yesterday and only made 2 adjustments to the recipe. One, I made it in my large dutch oven and baked it for 1.5 hours at 350 instead of my slow cooker, and two, I added more beets than the recipe called for. Big mistake on my part. It didn't effect the flavor as much as it effected...

Reviewed asparagus and bread soup with pancetta

Apr 20, 2014 on FoodNetwork.com

This soup is REALLY good, even after I played with the recipe (which I do because recipes to me are more of a "guideline.") I left out the bread, pancetta, lemon juice, and scallions and used dried tarragon instead of fresh. So I sautd the onions, added the garlic and dried tarragon along with the asparagus pieces, salt and pepper in a little...

It was really delicious but not worth the expense. I ended up making 2 batches and it was gone in no time at all. I made my own simple syrup (dissolve equal parts sugar & water) and added about 1/2 cup of that instead of adding sugar so that it would dissolve in cold liquid. I squeezed (squozed? lol) fresh limes but I don't think that was...

Beyond flavorful! Made this with only 6 tomatoes so cut the oven temp to 300° and time to 1.5 hr. Used some basil pesto instead of fresh and omitted the balsamic vinegar and sugar. The tomatoes took on kind of a sundried tomato flavor. This was a really wonderful snack."

I'm not a big mushroom fan and even *I* liked it! Could not find dried mushrooms so I cooked all mushrooms (portabella and shitake) together before adding carrots, celery, etc. I think it would be better to cook the carrots, celery, onions & garlic BEFORE adding the mushrooms (or cook the mushrooms separately), because carrots were still a litt...

Nov 1, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

This is such a good recipe, especially since I don't like mushrooms! I added onions, peppers, and a handful of fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme, oregano. I omitted the pancetta and used mushroom broth (not easily found so I stock up when I see it because my husband is a vegetarian. Mushroom broth has much better flavor than vegetable broth. Also a...

Absolutely wonderful. The fresh rosemary is a nice touch. I used a combo of mushroom broth and chicken broth and also added some fresh green beans. Instead of sauteing everything I put the veggies in with the northern beans (which I did in a dutch oven) in stages (carrots first, then celery, then green beans, then onion, garlic, & herbs). Ver...

Came out absolutely perfect! We also threw in a little parmesan and asiago and put it under the broiler to brown the top. Will definitely make it again. The fennel adds a really nice touch to otherwise bland scalloped potatoes.""

Was very easy to make. To give it a little more zing, I added a little white wine after sauteing the zucchini & onions along with some crushed red pepper flakes, oregano, thyme, and basil from the garden. For a final touch I added a couple handfuls of baby spinach and some grape tomatoes.""

Because zucchini can be so bland, I added minced garlic as well as a spice mixture of red pepper flakes, basil, thyme, oregano, and a veggie grilling seasoning (combined in a mortar and pestle to release all the goodness). I also added white wine while sauteing. To the cheese blend, I added a little gruyere cheese to give it a tangy little boost"

Oh yeah, almost forgot. I also added minced garlic to the saute. And also added some gruyere cheese to the cheese mixture."

Pretty darn good. I made a lot of it and was concerned that the 2 of us would have to choke it down for the remainder of the week. Not to worry...it's half gone after just 1 night. Anyway...
