Reviewed strawberry oatmeal bars

Jan 5, 2015 on

When I saw Ree making these, it brought back memories. I have been making these oatmeal bars for probably 20+ years. Found the recipe in our local newspaper. Hadn't made them for a while, so I pulled out the recipe and made a batch. YUM! I use whatever type of jam/jelly I have and just love them.

Reviewed quinoa salad with asparagus, goat cheese and black olives

Dec 26, 2014 on

Was looking for a different sort of side dish to go with Christmas dinner. Happened upon this recipe. It was super easy and really delicious. I did add some halved cherry tomatoes and it looked very festive. The dressing is really nice, very simple and very tasty. Could do so many spin off versions of this. I forgot how much I enjoy quinoa.

Reviewed salisbury steak with wild mushroom gravy, smashed potatoes with garlic and herb cheese and chives, creamed spinach

Dec 20, 2014 on

It's weird, anytime I see a show and someone makes salisbury steak, I get a HUGE craving for it...not sure why. So, when I took out ground meat to make burgers, I thought, I'm going to make salisbury steak instead. Only made the steak part of the recipe. It is super easy and delicious. Had some leftover sauce from braising some short ribs and...

Dec 18, 2014 on

My husband and I did NOT like this. I'm not sure if it was the cook or the recipe, likely both. It had a bitter taste and I couldn't figure out why. Needless to say, won't be making it again. Thinks it's partly just not really our style of food.

Reviewed beef short ribs

Dec 15, 2014 on

My husband purchased one enormous beef short rib, a little over 2 pounds and I didn't know how I was going to cook it. Came across this recipe and it worked perfectly. Very simple (a lot of chopping) and very tasty. I will use this recipe again.

Made this for dinner last night. So easy and so flavorful! Only had an 8 ounce package of Seitan, so halved the amounts but followed the ingredients exactly. Used flour tortillas instead of corn simply because we don't really like soft corn tortillas. Made the slaw but used apple cider vinegar instead of the lemon. Really great combination of...

This is quite yummy. Kind of a pain to make, but certainly not difficult. Way too much bechamel sauce in my opinion. Only used about half the recipe and would use less the next time I make it, which I definitely will do. Also used one pound of ground beef and added a layer of sliced zucchini.

Reviewed Ginger-Lemon Oatmeal Cookies

Dec 25, 2013 on

These are good cookies and they are quick and easy! A little on the sweet side for me, but I'll just reduce the amount of sugar. I also added a touch of lemon juice. Think I'll add a bit more next time. Love the ginger! Didn't have pecans so I just chopped some toasted almonds. Worked fine.

Reviewed Walnut-Maple Sandies

Dec 25, 2013 on

These cookies are good. I used a whole egg instead of just the egg yolk based on the comment below. My dough came out a bit sticky, but manageable. I would make these again -- next time I'll only use the yolk and see what happens. It would be fun to try them with walnut and maybe some lemon zest and juice.

Reviewed Shrimp and Egg Fried Rice with Napa Cabbage

Nov 13, 2013 on

This rice was delicious, super easy and super quick to make. And, the perfect use for my leftover takeout Chinese rice. Will definitely make again.

Reviewed Mom's Stuffed Eggplant

Oct 15, 2013 on

The recipe for the stuffing is YUMMY! My only problem is I don't like the skin on the eggplant, but it was easy enough to scoop out the stuffing and the soft flesh of the eggplant. I used small eggplants rather than a large one and my husband went back for seconds. I would definitely make this again.

Aug 3, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

I've decided I don't really like these meatballs. For me, it's a texture thing...they are bit too soft. I prefer a firmer meatball. Plus, in my opinion, there is too much filler in them. They taste good, and my husband who is Italian likes them. I'll stick with the Giada recipe I normally use. I have to say, they were quite easy to make."

Jun 28, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

I have never cooked duck before and saw Ina make this recipe on her show. I used one store bought duck, about 7 pounds. Simmered it for about 45 - 50 minutes. Dried it off and let it sit for about 30 minutes before roasting at 500 for exactly 30 minutes. I was concerned it might not be done because it was a bit larger than the recipe called for"
